Commercial Solar Case Study
Engineering resilient solar power & reducing operating costs in Juticalpa, Honduras
1. Executive Summary
2. Project Need
Every successful commercial solar installation begins with a real business need. Initiated in early 2024, the primary goal of this project was to generate reliable on-site electricity while lowering daily operational costs for a busy commercial site.
Operating from early morning until late night, Gas Station Padilla 1 experiences heavy daily energy consumption. Fuel pumps, high-bay security lighting, commercial refrigeration, monitoring systems, and office facilities drive substantial continuous demand. As grid electricity rates continue to rise, solar power provides a high-return solution to stabilize utility overheads.
2.1 Delivery Framework
The project followed a structured phased rollout executed between March 2024 and August 2024 under a seamless Turnkey Commercial EPC Framework:
- Phase 1 – Feasibility & Design (March 2024): Structural analysis of commercial metal roofing, load profile mapping, and solar irradiance modeling in Juticalpa.
- Phase 2 – Procurement & Logistics (April–May 2024): Global supply chain coordination delivering 585W N-TOPCon modules from Sungreat Energy alongside multi-MPPT inverters.
- Phase 3 – Installation & Electrical Integration (June–July 2024): Non-penetrating roof clamp installation, high-density PV module array deployment, DC/AC cabling run, and switchgear integration without interrupting business operations.
- Phase 4 – Testing, Commissioning & Handover (August 2024): Grid-synchronization testing, surge protection validation, and system handover for full commercial operations.
2.2 Engineering Challenges
- Continuous Daily Load Profile: Fuel pumps and cooling systems operate non-stop, requiring high grid-interconnection reliability.
- Constrained Rooftop Area: Limited mounting space required high-density PV modules that deliver maximum power per square meter.
- High Ambient Temperatures: Honduras’ warm climate demands solar equipment with low thermal degradation coefficients to maintain peak efficiency year-round.
